Poezie şi parfum: 6 parfumuri de la Theodoros Kalotinis

Se spune că viaţa este o colecţie de emoţii şi amintiri, o adevărată cutie plină cu bomboane de ciocolată, după cum zice Forest Gump. Pentru fiecare emoţie autentică există şi o senzaţie la fel de autentică, un miros unic. Când am auzit prima dată despre parfumurile lui Theodoros Kalotinis nu am ştiut că voi regăsi în ele exact asta, adică emoţie autentică. De fapt, când am auzit prima dată despre aceste parfumuri, pe Parfumaniacs, unul dintre grupurile de pasionaţi de parfumuri la fel de nebuni ca mine, nici măcar nu le-am încercat. Urma o vacanţă în Grecia, aşa că m-am hotărât să testez cât mai multe parfumuri de la Theodoros Kalotinis chiar la ele acasă.

Câteva luni mai târziu, coboram din avion pe tărâmul însorit şi plin de istorie al Cretei, insula mea preferată la Marea Mediterană. Creta este, probabil, adevăratul legăn al civilizaţiei europene: pe insulă au locuit oameni încă din cele mai vechi timpuri, iar civilizaţia minoică a fost, cu siguranţă, una dintre cele mai avansate la vremea ei. Aici s-a născut legenda lui Tezeu şi a Minotaurului, iar palatul din Knossos este privit acum drept sursa de inspiraţie care a stat la baza labirintului din legendă. Tot aici am ales să cunosc parfumurile lui Theodoros Kalotinis, chiar la ele acasă, căci aveam să aflu mai târziu că parfumierul este originar din Creta.

Ce am descoperit în parfumurile lui Theodoros Kalotinis

Prima impresie când am mirosit unul dintre parfumuri a fost mirarea. După atâţia ani de experienţă şi pasiune, tare e greu să mă mai surprindă ceva, însă aceste parfumuri de la Theodoros Kalotinis m-au surprins, m-au bucurat şi m-au făcut să-mi doresc mai mult. Am ales să testez prima dată Mentor, o aromă masculină, aşa că foarte curând m-am întins spre celelalte, căutând variantele unisex şi feminitatea exotică a aromelor. Le-am regăsit uşor. Mi-au plăcut aproape toate parfumurile testate, dar mi-am dorit să vorbesc pe larg despre cele pe care le-am resimţit ca fiind extraordinare, ca transmiţând emoţie autentică. Acestea sunt:

Lily

Un buchet de crini şi lăcrămioare pe o bază de vanilie şi paciuli, Lily este un parfum floral care reuşeşte să nu fie nici exagerat feminin, nici rece. Este inspirat de una dintre frescele din Knossos, Prinţul Crinilor şi, întocmai precum opera cu pricina, este cald, exotic şi atemporal. Deşi aroma este una centrată pe frumuseţea florilor albe, Lily este un parfum modern, frumos şi aproape unisex.

Vanilla

Când vine vorba despre parfumuri de la Theodoros Kalotinis, mulţi menţionează perfecţiunea acordurilor de cafea. Însă prea puţini ştiu că Vanilla, probabil cel mai accesibil parfum din colecţie, este aproape tot atât de frumos. Vorbim despre note de paciuli, caramel şi vanilie, dar mai ales despre aroma autentică a unor prăjituri proaspăt scoase din cuptor. Vanilla miroase a bine, a confort şi a acasă, exact precum madlena lui Proust.

Coffee Addict

Cel mai cunoscut parfum din gamă, Coffee Addict este de-a dreptul excepţional. Pentru orice iubitor sau iubitoare de cafea este cu siguranţă un must-have. Notele de cafea Arabica proaspăt prăjită se îmbină frumos cu notele de cacao, vanilie şi caramel într-o aromă unică, dar extrem de familiară. Miroase, pe rând, a espresso macchiato şi cafea grecească, a latte cu sirop de caramel şi un pic de îngheţată alături. Fără a fi exagerat dulce, Coffee Addict este pe bună dreptate cel mai cunoscut dintre aceste parfumuri de la Theodoros Kalotinis.

Aegean Sea Salt&Citrus

Chiar dacă gurmandele de mai sus sunt de-a dreptul excepţionale, preferatul meu la capitolul unisex este Aegean Sea Salt&Citrus. Notele de sare, lămâie şi grepfrut te transportă la Marea Egee aprope fără drept de apel, iar pe mine mă ajută să mă simt în vacanţă chiar dacă mă aflu în faţa laptopului. Dincolo de note şi acorduri, îmi aminteşte de Creta: plaje sălbatice şi incredibil de frumoase, citrice proaspete şi mirosul mării pe piele, în păr şi în vânt.

Royal Orchid

Cum nu prea există aromă naturală de orhidee, nu mă aşteptam ca Royal Orchid să-mi placă atât de mult. Este un parfum puternic, cu o bază de oud şi paciuli care îl face să fie extrem de rezistent şi să lase în urmă o dâră la fel de frumoasă ca el. Însă, mai presus de toate, Royal Orchid este pur şi simplu frumos: senzual, prin acordurile de orhidee, jucăuş, prin notele de merişoare. Puternic şi incredibil de frumos, Royal Orchid este mai mult decât un parfum pe care îl plac. Este un parfum pe care îl iubesc.

I am beautiful

Aşa cum îi spune şi numele, I am beautiful ocupă locul 1 în materie de frumuseţe, dintre toate acele parfumuri de la Theodoros Kalotinis pe care am putut să le testez – căci nu toate erau disponibile. Merişoarele din Royal Orchid sunt aici şi mai jucăuşe, trandafirul este natural şi frumos, iar ambra şi notele de paciuli din bază îndeamnă la putere şi stare de bine. Dacă Royal Orchid este un parfum cu şi despre putere feminină, I am beautiful este doar despre frumuseţe pură.

They say that life is a collection of memories and emotions, a box full of chocolates, as Forest Gump used to say. I believe that for every authentic emotion there is an equally authentic sensation and a unique smell. When I first heard about Theodoros Kalotinis’ perfumes, I didn’t know that I would come to find real emotion entangled in their composition. In fact, when I first heard about these perfumes, on Parfumaniacs, one of the Romanian groups for perfume enthusiasts, I didn’t even bother to try them. I was preparing to go on a holiday in Greece, and I decided to try as many perfumes by Theodoros Kalotinis as possible right there, were they were created.

Several months later, I was getting off the plane to visit the sunny, historic land of Crete, my favorite island in the Mediterranean. Crete is probably the true cradle of European civilization: people have lived on this island since ancient times, and the Minoan civilization was certainly one of the most advanced in its time. This is where the legend of Theseus and the Minotaur was born, and the palace of Knossos is even seen as the source of inspiration for the mythical labyrinth. Here was were I wanted to discover the perfumes of Theodoros Kalotinis, right at home. I would go on to find out that the perfumer is originally from Crete too.

What I discovered by testing Theodoros Kalotinis perfumes

The first impression I had when I smelled one of the perfumes was amazement. After so many years of experience and passion, it’s hard to be surprised by anything, but Theodoros Kalotinis perfumes did just that, they surprised me. They also made me happy and kept me wanting more. I chose to test Mentor first, a masculine fragrance, but I was quickly reaching for other perfumes. I was particularly searching for unisex fragrances and feminine exotic ones. I was to find them with ease. While I liked almost all the perfumes I tested in Crete, I wanted to write about the ones I thought were extraordinary in conveying genuine beauty and emotion. These are:

Lily

A bouquet of lilies of the valley and lilies on a base of vanilla and patchouli, Lily is a floral fragrance that manages to be neither overly feminine nor cold. It is inspired by one of the frescoes in Knossos, the Prince of Lilies Fresco and, like the work in question, it is warm, exotic and timeless. Although the aroma is centered on the beauty of white flowers, Lily is a modern, beautiful and almost unisex fragrance.

Vanilla

When it comes to Theodoros Kalotinis perfumes, many reviewers mention the perfection of the coffee blend. However, there are those who know that Vanilla, probably the most affordable fragrance in this collection, is almost as beautiful as Coffee Addict. We are talking about patchouli, caramel and vanilla notes, but especially about the authentic aroma of freshly baked cakes. Vanilla smells good, comfortable, fresh-out-of-the-oven and it makes you feel at home. Just like Proust’s madeleine!

Coffee Addict

The most famous perfume in the range, Coffee Addict is truly exceptional. It is definitely a must-have for any coffee lover. The freshly roasted Arabica notes combine beautifully with those of cocoa, vanilla and caramel, creating a unique, but extremely familiar aroma. It smells just like espresso macchiato and Greek coffee and latte with caramel syrup and a little ice cream on the side. Without being overly sweet, Coffee Addict is rightly known as the best gourmand perfume by Theodoros Kalotinis.

Aegean Sea Salt&Citrus

Even though the gourmands above are truly exceptional, my favorite unisex fragrance from Theodoros Kalotinis is Aegean Sea Salt & Citrus. The salty notes blend well with lemon and grapefruit notes to transport you directly to the Aegean Sea. This perfume would help me feel on vacation even when working on my laptop in Bucharest. Beyond notes, this reminds me of Crete. Wild and incredibly beautiful beaches, fresh citruses everywhere and the smell of the sea on skin, hair and in the breeze.

Royal Orchid

Since there isn’t much natural orchid extract to go around, I didn’t expect to like Royal Orchid as much as I did. It is indeed a strong perfume, with a patchouli and oud base that makes it extremely long-lasting. It also leaves behind a trail as beautiful as it is. But, above all, Royal Orchid is simply beautiful: sensual, with orchid accords, and playful – with cranberry notes. Powerful and incredibly beautiful, Royal Orchid is so much more than a perfume I like. It’s a perfume I love.

I am beautiful

As the name suggests, I am beautiful ranks 1st in terms of beauty out of all the Theodoros Kalotinis perfumes I was able to test – because not all of them were available. The cranberries in the Royal Orchid are even more playful here, the rose is natural and beautiful, and the amber and patchouli base inspires strength and well-being. If Royal Orchid is a fragrance about feminine power, I am beautiful is all about pure beauty.
