Theodoros Kalotinis: Veșnic îndrăgostit de parfumerie! – INTERVIU FLAWLESS

Prima dată când am mirosit parfumurile lui Theodoros Kalotinis, am fost surprinsă nu doar de originalitatea compoziţiilor, ci şi de sentimentele pe care reuşeau să le trezească în mine însămi. La vremea aceea nu ştiam că aceste arome erau create de un tânăr parfumier grec la fel de îndrăgostit de arome şi emoţii ca mine. Theodoros Kalotinis a creat unul dintre cele mai frumoase parfumuri cu aromă de cafea din lume, Coffee Addict. Tot el a creat şi parfumuri speciale pentru Prinţul Charles şi Ducesa de Cornwall. Deşi a primit ulterior o scrisoare din partea prinţului, Theodoros Kalotinis rămâne modest şi veşnic îndrăgostit de arta de a crea parfumuri.

“Mereu lucrez cu emoţiile şi cu amintirile mele,” spune el. Într-adevăr, parfumurile lui Theodoros Kalotinis reuşesc să trezească chiar asta în persoana care le alege – emoţii şi amintiri. Acesta este şi motivul pentru care am decis să-l intervievez pe parfumierul grec şi să aflu ce secrete se ascund în spatele frumoaselor lui compoziţii. Răspunsul, după cum aveam să aflu curând, este unul simplu şi universal – dragostea.

Ce amintiri parfumate ai din copilărie şi tinereţe?

Din copilărie îmi aduc aminte de ierburile şi de condimentele pe care le folosea bunica mea, dar şi de gardeniile pe care le creştea în grădină. Avea grijă de ele ca şi cum ar fi fost copiii ei.

Care era mirosul tău preferat în copilărie şi care este mirosul tău preferat acum?

În general, iubesc orice miros. Fiecare miros îmi inspiră un sentiment diferit. În copilărie, îmi plăcea mult mirosul florilor de portocal. Astăzi, îmi place mirosul de cafea.

Când vine vorba de alegerea propriilor parfumuri, ce criterii foloseşti? Îți bazezi alegerea pe sentimente sau pe ingrediente, sticle și branduri?

La crearea parfumurilor mele, lucrez mereu cu emoțiile și amintirile. Când văd iasomie, îmi vine în minte senzația de libertate din copilărie. Când simt mirosul florilor de lămâi, îmi amintesc de florile care îmi alinau sufletul în copilărie, pentru că pe-atunci obișnuiam să vorbesc cu florile. Erau cei mai buni prieteni pe care îi aveam.

Pentru că tot vorbim despre parfumurile tale, care a fost primul parfum pe care l-ai ales pentru tine?

Îmi amintesc că îmi plăceau mirosurile dulci de vanilie, dar primul parfum de brand pe care l-am ales a fost Chanel Platinum Egoiste. Mi-a amintit de ceva metalic, dinamic, ceva… de pe altă planetă.

Care a fost primul parfum pe care l-ai făcut cadou unui prieten sau unei persoane dragi ţie?

Pe când încă nu descoperisem piața parfumurilor de nişă, primul parfum mainstream pe care l-am dăruit a fost… Miss Dior!

Când şi cum ai decis să creezi primul tău parfum?

Am decis să creez primul meu parfum dintr-o nevoie mare și profundă de a-mi exprima sentimentele. Emoția este ghidul meu în viață.

Mai fabrici unele dintre primele tale compoziţii sau te-ai hotărât să mergi mai departe şi să creezi doar parfumuri noi?

Încă păstrez parfumurile cu care am început în colecţia mea, dar într-o formă îmbunătățită. În general, rețetele mele rămân neschimbate și tot ce vând este întotdeauna la fel. Ca o mâncare delicioasă a cărei rețetă rămâne mereu aceeași… cu toată măiestria care a fost acolo prima dată.

Ce te-a inspirat să creezi Coffee Addict? Dar noua colecţie, The Golden Secret Collection?

Am creat Coffee Addict pentru că îmi place mirosul de cafea… Sunt dependent de el! După cum știți, cafeaua este mâna dreaptă a parfumierului, deoarece această aromă neutralizează parfumurile anterioare şi “curăţă nasul”. Prin urmare, am avut întotdeauna boabe de cafea în laboratorul meu pentru neutralizare. Într-o dimineață, când soarele strălucea printre perdele, am decis să surprind într-o sticlă mirosul perfect de cafea, foarte diferit de tot ce era deja pe piață. Oamenilor le-a plăcut foarte mult și ei sunt cei care au transformat Coffee Addict un best seller!

Noua mea colecție este într-adevăr ceva ce mi-am dorit să fac de mult timp… Îmi plac ingredientele rare și rafinate, aşa că am strâns cele mai preţioase și mai scumpe ingrediente din lume și am creat, cu multă dragoste, aceste patru parfumuri.

Cum te-ai simțit când ai aflat că Coffee Addict și multe altele sunt foarte apreciate în Grecia, dar și în afara ei?

Sincer să fiu, sunt foarte recunoscător pentru acest parfum special. Este iubit în toată lumea și primesc comenzi din fiecare colț al globului. Apreciez cu adevărat fiecare comandă, fiecare comentariu pozitiv pe care îl primesc, pentru că m-am descurcat singur. Am plecat de la zero, doar cu dragostea pe care o aveam pentru parfumerie. Dragostea pe care o primesc la rândul meu de la oameni de pretutindeni este cel mai important cadou pentru mine. Promit să creez mereu parfumuri care să atingă inimile și emoțiile oamenilor.

Am găsit sensul iubirii adevărate în arta parfumeriei și voi rămâne un iubit fidel al acestei arte. Veșnic îndrăgostit de parfumerie!

Se spune adesea că parfumurile sunt despre emoții. Ce sentimente speri să le oferi celor care iubesc și folosesc parfumurile Theodoros Kalotinis?

Parfumurile înseamnă emoții și amintiri. Din fire, sunt un perfecţionist. Îmi doresc ca un parfum să fie perfect ca şi compoziție, dar cel mai important lucru rămâne, pentru mine, emoţia. Viaţa mea este în întregime dedicată parfumeriei, iar atunci când miros un ingredient, îmi tremură şi trupul, și sufletul. Îmi doresc ca parfumurile mele să ofere oamenilor sentimente de siguranță, dragoste, căldură, erotism, dar și emoţia de a fi diferit… Pentru că fiecare persoană este unică și fiecare ființă are multă dragoste de oferit, dacă ceva sau cineva trezește în acea fiinţă dragostea.

Am găsit sensul iubirii adevărate în arta parfumeriei și voi rămâne un iubit fidel al acestei arte. Veșnic îndrăgostit de parfumerie!

When I first smelled Theodoros Kalotinis perfumes, I was surprised not only by the originality of the compositions, but also by the feelings they awoke in me. At the time, I didn’t know these scents were created by a young Greek perfumer that was also in love with scents and feelings. Theodoros Kalotinis has created one of the most beautiful coffee scents in the world, Coffee Addict, and he has also crafted personal scents for Charles, the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall. Although he later received a letter from the prince himself, Theodoros Kalotinis remains modest and very much in love with the art of creating perfumes.

“I always work with my emotions and my memories,” he says. Theodoros Kalotinis perfumes do manage to awake just that in the person that chooses them – emotions and memories. That is precisely why I decided to interview the Greek perfumer and find out what secrets are hiding behind his beautiful scents. The answer, as I was about to find out, is simple and universal – love.

What scented memories do you have from your childhood and youth?

From my childhood I remember the herbs and spices that my grandmother had in her house, but also her gardenias blooming in the garden. She used to take care of them like they were her children.

What was your favorite aroma as a child, and what is your favorite aroma now?

I generally love every smell. Every smell is a different feeling for me. As a child, I used to love the smell of orange blossoms. Today, I love the smell of coffee.

When it comes to choosing your own perfumes, what criteria do you use in selecting them? Do you base your choice on feelings or on ingredients, bottles and brands?

When I create perfumes, I always work with my emotions and with my memories. When I see jasmine, the feeling of carefreeness comes to mind, and I remember my childhood. When I smell lemon blossoms, I remember the flowers that comforted my soul as a child, because I used to talk to the flowers. They were my best friends.

Speaking about your perfumes, what was the first perfume you selected for yourself?

I remember I used to love sweet vanilla scents, but the first branded perfume I chose was Chanel Platinum Egoiste. It reminded me of something metallic, dynamic, something… from another planet.

What was the first perfume you selected as a gift for a friend or loved one?

When I had not yet discovered the niche perfume market, the first mainstream perfume I gifted was… Miss Dior!

How and when did you decide to create your first perfume?

I decided to create my first perfume after a great and deep need to express my different feelings. Emotion is my guide in life.

Do you still make some of your first perfumes or have you decided to move on and create only new ones?

I still keep the perfumes with which I started in my line, but in an improved form. Generally speaking, I am consistent with my recipes and what I market is always the same. Like a delicious food whose recipe always remains the same… with all the mastery it was made for the first time.

What inspired you to create Coffee Addict? What about the new line, The Golden Secret Collection?

I created Coffee Addict because I love the smell of coffee… I am addicted to it! As you know, coffee is a perfumers’ right hand because it cleanses the sense of smell. Therefore, I always had coffee beans inside my lab to cleanse my smell. One morning as the sun was shining through the curtains, I decided to capture the perfect coffee scent in a bottle, something that will be different from what is already on the market. People really loved it and they made Coffee Addict a best seller!

My new collection is truly something I wanted to do for a long time… I love the rare and exquisite ingredients and so I gathered the most valuable and expensive ingredients in the world and created 4 perfumes with a lot of love.

How did you feel when you found out Coffee Addict and many others are highly appreciated in Greece and beyond?

To be honest, I am really grateful for this particular perfume. It is loved worldwide and I receive orders from literally every corner of the world. I truly appreciate every order, every good comment I receive because I am self-made. I started from scratch, with only the love I had for perfumery to guide me. The love I receive from people everywhere is the most important gift for me, and I always promise to create perfumes that will touch people’s hearts and emotions.

I have found the meaning of true love in the art of creating perfumes, and I will remain a faithful lover of my art. Eternally in love with perfumery!

It’s often said perfumes are all about emotions. What feelings do you hope to provide to those who love and use Theodoros Kalotinis perfumes?

Perfume is all about emotions and memories. As a human being, I am a perfectionist. I want a perfume to be perfectly crafted as a composition, but the most important thing for me is the feeling. Perfumery is my whole life, and when I smell an ingredient, my body and soul shiver. I want my perfumes to give people the feeling of security, love, warmth, eroticism, but also the feeling of being different… Because every person is different and each being has a lot of love to offer, as long as something or someone awakens that feeling of love in him.

I have found the meaning of true love in the art of creating perfumes, and I will remain a faithful lover of my art. Eternally in love with perfumery!
